about

Buzzard Lope are an alt-jazz trio from London, ploughing the rich furrows of Tom Waits’ tragicomedy and Elliott Smith’s melancholy. A hybrid of jazz, pop and alternative sensibilities, Buzzard Lope are shaped by the pop-tinged songwriting of pianist and singer Roger Illingworth, jazz double bass of Adam Jarvis and distinctive stylings of Brazilian drummer Raphael Saib.

The band released their debut album Daybreak in Autumn 2011, through "SONGS & WHISPERS". Strings, horns, organ, accordion and guitar augment the piano trio, which remains central to the sound of the album. The arrangements are at times lush and glistening, at other times simple and stark, and on occasion unashamedly pop. The album’s central theme is the absurd difficulty of simply making a start; ironic in light of the sometimes trivial, sometimes tragic delays on the road to this first release.
