This friend I had one summer
would wake me in the night
take a beebee gun and shoot it at
a county map
and where it landed we'd drive
until the morning waked

We'd drive out in the evening
down a blank suburban road
and with a can of orange paint
we'd write out names
and walk around the neighborhood
untilt he morning waked

I lost my mom that summer
but all that's left from then
are the memories of those drive's we'd take
the smell of paint
the way the sun softly rose
on our drying names
