King of Bitter Sorrow

by Ben Lorentzen

/
1.
The King of Sorrow and Pain I was born by the mountain On a green grass plane But like Adam before me I was driven away Oooooh Was driven away You said the sea would be stormy You said the land would be rough You didn’t say where we’re going I got to know soon enough Ooooh Soon enough Light falls into darkness Things will never be the same You say: “It takes one to know one” The king of Sorrow and Pain Ooooh The King of Sorrow and Pain.

Underneath a fatherless sky Underneath a fatherless sky In throw away backyards, by and by The ballerina and the jack Rubin their eyes with glue She’s a dancer in a pink tutu With dirt stain dots and a story too Comes from mummy, smells like dad In grayish sleep she hears them And the Jack will sing ‘Till the morning comes With a broken voice An unknown song for those Crawled every country worn every faith Two hearts and four lives clovers One by one they bloom too late Tomorrows train has left them
3.
If you only knew "I'm sorry" won't do it If there's nothing to it "I'm sorry" won't do it anyhow "Forgive me" won't do it If there's nothing to it "Forgive me" won't do it anyhow But if you only knew The way I feel for you All is clear, all is true And if you only knew The way that I love you All is clear, all is true "I love you" won't do it If there's nothing to it "I love you" won't do it anyhow

Yes, This is a sad song You can go to the movies You can hang out in bars Take a stroll down a slow street Or just stay right where you are Most people seem to come in pairs And it gets twice as lonely in here I walk this shell of a body around And yes, This is a sad song You can go to a party You can go to the church You can stop by a night club And tell them all how bad it hurts Most people find a way to talk And it gets twice as hard to do this walk I'm watitn' for the right words to come along And yes, this is a sad song And sometimes I wish the sun would stop And the rain would fall Just to calm me down 'Cause there something, when the weather drops About the way we all Seem to be on common ground Some people say Budda Some people say Christ Some people say religion Contains everything they have despised Most people seem to find a way And it gets twice as hard to stay I search my soul for what is right and wrong And yes, this is a sad song

All knives out I was talking to God I was talking to God I was whispering the word And heard the saddest of songs I was talking to the walls I was talking to the floor And then a shiver through the ages found a pathway to my door: “Say, will this day be the day, say…." All knives out Let the color come out loud All knives out Let them know what it’s about Knives out now If I could scream and shout All knives out I was talking to God I was talking to God I heard the echoes of my words as they reflected down the hall: “Say, will this day be the day, say…." All knives out Let the color come out loud All knives out Let them know what it’s about Knives out now If I could scream and shout All knives out Piercing the skin Let it out, let it in

Right next to nothing When this world seems confounding And I’m elusively pounding Through fleeting dispatches And nothing matches And I, I had my share Will I find your here? When I’m tied up by lose ends And surrounded by no friends And life is a shadow That sits by my window And I, I had my share Will I find you here? Will I find you here Right next to nothing Holding up What comes down Will I find you here Right next to nothing Holding up What comes down? One promise failed Is a double wrong made As the hurting is two fold And the aftermath is too cold And I, I had my share Will I find you here? I know the sensations Of chintzy exhortations That squirms out of passion Like a floating apparition And I, I had my share Will I Find you here ? Will I find you here Right next to nothing Holding up What comes down Will I find you here Right next to nothing Holding up what comes down?

Sometimes at last doesn't happen at first Sometimes at last doesn't happen at first It all came together then everything burst I felt so blessed, but now I am cursed Sometimes at last doesn't happen at first I met a man, he was old at 22 The laziest man to sit between two shoes He said: "no one ever wins, one side's just slower to lose" Without even trying he had misspent his youth I met a woman, saying: "why not me, just want to get ahead, is there a place for me? Is the hour upon us in our democracy The haters will hate, and the lovers... will they just let it be?" I went out into the world and I heard the despair Millions of people, no one was really there I asked what has become of peace and love and care And everyone pointed out the other one and said: "Never while you are here" But I travelled the land and I saw its rebirth By the sun and the rain and the sky and the earth By a frown of the will and sweat on the shirt By an unnoticed, uncelebrated heart in the dirt Sometimes at last doesn't happen at first The cages are rattling, some of them may burst But we can be blessed though now we are cursed Sometimes at last doesn't happen at first

Oh My Love 04:49
Oh, My Love There’s a glint in your eyes, it says your leaving Something's waiting out there to be found Distance in your touch Whatever it may be, It ain’t that much There’s a grief that I know waving endlessly Please, a way to retain crumbs of love Tie me down to see I never meant to be in your way Oh my Love, Oh my Love Is it a true, gesture of you To keep me here and tell me: "Dear, don’t leave" There’s regret at the door when you’re leaving There is no rest in you room when you sleep Distance in your touch It rips my heart apart at the seems It ain't that much
9.
Life down here in hell Oh Lord - I can feel your suffering tonight Oh yes - I can feel it now Oh Lord - I can feel your suffering tonight Coming down drenched in alcohol They found ways to sell Life down here in hell Oh Lord - I can feel your agony tonight Oh yes - I can feel it now Oh Lord - I can feel your agony tonight coming down drenched in alcohol They found ways to sell Life down in hell Tonight…

Come On Home 03:58
Come on Home There’s a light that shines on you now Your troubles will fade somehow Just let it go Right here, right now - you belong Right here, right now - you belong Just come on home There’s a way that opens for you now All your fears will fade somehow Just let it go Right here, right now - you belong Right here, right now you belong Just come on home

about

Ben Lorentzen releases third album: King of Bitter Sorrow.
Here Lorentzen continues to dive deeper into the Suburban Noir landscape ha started
exploring with two previous albums. In other words: it is still dark and moody, it’ s introvert,
eclectic and dealing with the pains and pleasures of existence. The pace is slower than on
the previous album “Pains & Pleasures of Intimacy”, but the lyrics are strong, heartfelt and
sung as if life depended on it. As a backdrop Ben Lorentzen explains how he imagines the
10 songs as a conversation between humanity and it’s collective conscience and how the
two entities falling apart becomes the King of Bitter Sorrow.
