As I roam through this land with guitar and case in hand There's a place that I dwell I return there when I can But it’s hard to get home, all these highways all these roads Join the dots, make it work, little doggie chase the bone And I play and I sing To the people I bring I’ve got the traveling salesman problem everywhere I go I go from A to B but never quite end up at home With you At home with you Get up late, hit the road, as I head out far from home Make a stop, grab some food, but the morning seems so rude Take your time, hurry up, set up, play and then pack up All the time in the world, but no time to just catch up And I meet such nice folk Then I say goodbye again I’ve got the traveling salesman problem everywhere I go I go from A to B but never quite end up at home With you At home with you At home with you At home with you And oh the lonely days And oh the lonesome nights And oh the lonely days And oh those lonesome nights I’ve got the traveling salesman problem everywhere I go I go from A to B but never quite end up at home I’ve got the traveling salesman problem everywhere I go I go from A to B but never quite end up at home No I never quite end up at home No I never quite end up at home With you 6. An Island 02:38
An Island When I look at you I see an island, Waiting in the dawn before the light When I look at you, I see my own self Searching for a place to alight When I look at you I see a white dove Searching for a way to take flight When I look at me I see a miner Working day and night towards the light There’s a place you and I can be Hovering in the clouds above the sea Floating in a place where only hope lives Waiting for a place too far to see When I look at you I see a postcard Marking all the those days I spent with you When I look at you I see you smiling Waiting for the day I’m back with you When I look at you I see myself With a handful of pretty petals for your shelf Hoping for a time when we can be alone Hoping for a moment of your breath Hoping for a chance to get to know you Hoping for a moment of your breath Hoping for a moment of your breath

Without You 03:09
Without You I don’t know what to do I don’t know where to go Without you by my side Without you day and night Without you I don’t know what to say I don’t know which game to play Without you by my side Without you day and night Now I’ve searched and I’ve tried, but I was way too blind Now I’ll spend my life, trying to get back our time Time without you I’ll never find a better life I’ll always be denied Without you by my side Without you day and night ‘Cos I’ve searched and I’ve tried, but I was way too blind Now I’ll spend my life, trying to get back our time Without you my eyes turn dark, my skin to grey I clung to you, like the thoughts in my head Now I’ve searched and I’ve tried, but I was way too blind Now I’ll spend my life, trying to get back our time I’ve searched and I’ve tried, but I was way too blind Now I’ll spend my life, trying to get back our time Time without you

House on a Hill A young boy is sitting up on a log And his father is cutting wood in the fog And he knows it’s for winter, to keep the fire strong There's a song in his heart, he'll sing loud and long And a woman is gardening, she’s pulling up weeds With the things that she grows, her family she feeds And she knows that she won't need to garden too long And the things that she grows, they'll grow tall and strong A house on a hill is yet standing there still Though the people who lived there have lived up their fill And they know though they can’t visit it any more It will stand there forever in their sacred halls And a child in the nighttime is there at the door She was scared in the dark by the monsters she saw And although she can’t know it, she’ll soon dry her tears And she’ll comfort her daughter when she has the same fears And a old man is sitting in his armchair With a book and a glass and a shock of white hair And he knows that he's earned it, this place in the sun And the time that he has, has now just begun A house on a hill is yet standing there still Though the people who lived there have lived up their fill And they know though they can’t visit it any more It will stand there forever in their sacred halls And the young folk play, in the fields of their minds And they run far and fast, and their will is divine And they give us our meaning as we give them their lives And they carry our clocks as they stand still in time Oh stand still in time A house on a hill is yet standing there still Though the people who lived there have lived up their fill And they know though they can’t visit it any more It will stand there forever in their sacred halls A house on a hill (house on a hill) is yet standing there still (standing there still) Though the people who lived there (people who lived there) have lived up their fill (lived up their fill) And they know (they know) though they can’t (they can’t) visit it any more (visit no more) It will stand there forever (stand there forever) in their sacred halls (in their sacred halls) A house on a hill (house on a hill) is yet standing there still (standing there still) Though the people who lived there (people who lived there) have lived up their fill (lived up their fill) And they know (they know) though they can’t (they can’t) visit it any more (visit no more) It will stand there forever (stand there forever) in their sacred halls (in their sacred halls)

about

Islands is the third release for Simon Hudson, Australian singer-songwriter whose highly original music weaves a captivating blend of world, roots and folk. Islands launches globally 19th June 2020 through label Songs and Whispers (Germany), distributed by Broken Silence (Germany).

The EP is called Islands because while recording it, Simon travelled back and forth between various islands - Florianópolis (Brazil), Cuba, and Australia. Travelling like this can feel like a sailor approaching unknown islands, and this is some kind of map for exploring uncharted territory. Islands is a fascinating mixture of roots, Latin and folk styles that trips lightly between samba, bossa nova, infectious timabala, moving folk ballads and a slice of classic 70s funk.

Simon Hudson named influences including Carlinhos Brown, The Cat Empire, Jose Gonzalez, Neil Finn, and Paul Simon.
